Our club only meets once a month. In my opinion, that is far to little. If it were up to me, we would be meeting once a week. But, due to different schedules, we'll make do with what we get. Though, I will say that we need to meet more and do more things together. As the weather warms, we have a great opportunity to take advantage of Collins Hill park. We could meet there and have some writing sessions. There are a lot of things we, as a club, could do to sort of boost our activities.
I would love to hear some suggestions for things we could do as a club (and even with potential members, inviting other creative friends to tag along).
I have a few, I suppose. My first is the park idea. Once it hits spring, I would love to meet with anyone who could at Collins Hill Park after school one day and have a writing session at the park. We could hang out for an hour or so, write, share our work when we're finished then head our own ways. We could meet on a Friday some time that we don't have any other plans. Meeting outside of our meetings would be a really good idea.
Another is having little lunches together, coming and talking about whatever we feel is important, just bonding as a club. We could meet a Saturday or Sunday afternoon at a coffee shop and sit and just chat for a while, even if it's three of us or ten of us!
My dream is to create a book club. I am a great lover of books and, often, find myself without a friend to talk to about the greats. I'll finish a book and I just have to let it float around in my head for a while before it slowly fades away. Creating a book club with a couple of the members would be a great way to create a solution to this problem. We could meet once every two months, address a book, read it during the time away from each other, then talk about it at the next time we meet. I suppose that's sort of how book clubs work. You pick a book (usually each person has a turn to pick the book), read it over the time apart, and discuss it when you return.
We could do themed book clubs, for different authors, or just general book clubs where anything is an option. Themed book clubs are good. We could have Sci-fi book club, Realism Book Club, Fantasy Book club, Jane Austen, Classics, anything! I like the classics idea, personally, maybe doing Brittish literature, or even literature from different parts of the world. What would be really fun is to create multipul book clubs for different things. You wouldn't have to be in all of them, just as many as you want (or can handle).
I would also love to start this during the summer, though it is not necc. We could start it over the school year and continue it on over the summer till next year and so on and so forth.
Anyone interested in any of those? Any ideas, suggestions?
